Green Glossary: Earth Day

From the Editors of Green Goes Simple

Some holidays are represented by bunnies and eggs, others by pumpkins and candy. But what’s the scoop behind the holiday that honors the one thing we all share -- Earth Day?

For over 30 years, Earth Day has been a time to step back and acknowledge the wonder that is planet Earth and to recognize the steps we must all take to protect it. Every year, Earth Day falls on April 22. The first Earth Day celebration was in 1970 -- and it had more than 20 million participants. Today, over 500 million people across 175 countries recognize the occasion.

Everyone from students to senior citizens to politicians can get in on the festivities! A quick online search will help connect you to Earth Day events in your area. You can also get in on the good, green fun by encouraging your family, friends and neighbors to add a bit of eco-awareness into their days. Visit EarthDay.org to find local eco-events, make a pledge to go green, and learn about other ways you and your family can get involved. Happy Earth Day!
